Northern White Cedar is the best material to make shingles. White cedar outlasts most other woods. Its natural preservatives make it rot-resistant and able to withstand insects. White Cedar has proven itself for over hundreds of years being used inside and out for log homes, barns, fences, sidings, and furniture. Cedar shingles are being used today over most other wood sidings. Shingles are 16" in length and are available in regular cuts or Resquared and Rebutted (R & R). To make R & R shingles, the shingle is cut twice. The sides are made parallel with each other and the butt of the shingle is cut again. After that is done you have a shingle that is perfectly squared which will end up saving time and money for the builder and home owner. R & R shingles are excellent for projects where the shingles need to be placed tightly together. Key Benefits
